Do You Need A Letterbox or Postbox?

Do You Need Letterbox or Postbox - Replacement Door Parts IrelandThe vast majority of homes in Ireland have a letterbox installed in the front door as opposed to a postbox. The letterbox is an essential part of the door, as it allows your post to be delivered directly into your home. Unfortunately, the letterbox can become damaged or break from wear and tear (and all that junk mail delivery!). This can leave your letterbox flapping annoyingly in the wind. The most common problem with letterboxes is that the springs are prone to breaking. So what are your options when the letterbox breaks? The first option is to replace the letter box and the second option is to install a post box on the wall near the front door. In this post we’ll outline how to replace your letterbox and/or postbox and let you know some of the most common models used in Ireland.

How To Replace A Letterbox

How To Replace A LetterboxReplacing the letterbox in your door is pretty straightforward. The most important thing is to select the correct size to suit your door.

  1. Using a measuring tape, measure the overall length of the existing letterbox in millimetres. Measure the body of the letterbox, not the flap.
  2. Next measure the overall height of the existing letterbox in millimetres
  3. Select correct replacement size
  4. Remove old letterbox and insert replacement

Common Letterbox Sizes in Ireland

The three most common sizes of letter boxes used in Ireland are
